This workshop provides members of a new Project Management Office (PMO) an opportunity to design and initiate their PMO.
The workshop enables the team to build its first deliverables:
- PMO Charter
- Mission and objectives
- Staffing, Products and services
- Constraints or assumptions
- Relationships and communication with other groups
- PMO Initiation Plan
- Scope of work (objectives)
- Priorities, constraints and assumptions
- Key deliverables , Roles and responsibilities
- Implementation approach, Change management approach
- Communication approach
- Monitoring and progress reviews
- Detailed Work Plan for Near Term
- Tasks with effort estimates
- Key milestones, Basis for resources and schedule
- High-level Work Plan for remainder
Audience
This workshop is designed for members of a new Project Management Office who are defining the initial services to be done by the PMO. It might be done as a single session or as a series of work sessions. Intermediate activities might be used to clarify expectations, gain organization buy-in and approval to the charter, and/or establish priorities for outcomes of the initiation activities.
The workshop is likely to be preceded by a PMO Profiling, which identifies the primary services needed from the PMO and characterizes the current organizational project management and PMO capability.
